In a courier or logistics depot the client never sees the staging area — but they feel it. A mis-sorted parcel at the feed line becomes a wrong-route reprint days later. The U5 works the line where the sorter stands: a laser 1D gun that logs every bin label into the sort system at the moment the parcel lands:
- Laser for reach in the depot — when parcels sit at chest height across the aisle, the laser's long reach covers the distance that a contact CCD would need walking for.
- Deducts at the bin, not after the van — RS232 or HID output posts the scan at the bin side, so exception items get caught the same minute, not after the manifest ships.
- Rate-matched to the line — the back-stage family scan rate comfortably follows a hand-fed feed line; the W1 becomes relevant only when belts carry the parcels past fixed stations.

Depot 1D labels still dominate and a laser is more forgiving at distance; when QR and DataMatrix start appearing on your vendor parcels, the U50 long-range 2D is the same-line upgrade.
The U-series shell is a standard commercial build; for the drop-bias world of full depots, the W-series industrial housing is the honest answer to your D&T program.
